A hearing on the request has been scheduled for September 18, Tanjug has learned.

At today’s trial of the group accused of murdering members of the Škaljari clan, which also includes Šarić, the prosecutor said that a parole request had been filed.

Šarić’s defense attorneys submitted the request after he had served two-thirds of the sentence to which he was finally convicted.

He surrendered to Serbian authorities in 2014, at which point an international arrest warrant had been issued for him in connection with the cocaine trafficking case.

In addition, Šarić was sentenced in a first-instance ruling to six years in prison for organizing a criminal group whose members were convicted of several offenses aimed at discrediting Nebojša Joksović, a cooperating witness in the drug trafficking case.

The Court of Appeals in Belgrade will rule on that judgment.
