Trump is left alone: Europe turns its back on him in Davos PHOTO
At the signing ceremony of President Donald Trump’s new Board of Peace in Davos, representatives from fewer than 20 countries were present, and none of the traditional Western European U.S. allies attended.
Countries represented on stage in Davos were largely aligned with the Middle East and South America, including leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Argentina, and Paraguay.
“We are truly honored by your presence today,” Trump said, referring to them as “in most cases very popular leaders, in some cases not so popular.”
The total number of attendees was fewer than approximately 35, which a senior administration official had earlier predicted for journalists this week. Notably, no Western European countries were present, some of which had expressed concern about the idea of a Board of Peace that could potentially include adversaries like Russia, which is currently at war with one of their allies, according to CNN.
Who accepted membership in Trump’s Board of Peace?
The U.S. news agency AP reported that the countries that accepted Trump’s invitation to join the Board of Peace include: Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Belarus, Egypt, Hungary, Indonesia, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kosovo (self-declared), Morocco, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
Those who will not be joining, at least for now, are: France, Norway, Slovenia, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
Others were also invited but did not commit in any way: Cambodia, China, Croatia, Germany, India, Italy, the EU, Paraguay, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, and Ukraine.
