The whole world trembles: What will Trump say and what comes next

Donald Trump, the U.S. President, is set to deliver a speech today at the Davos forum, eagerly awaited by the entire world. Several global officials participating in the World Economic Forum have warned that the world is heading in an uncertain direction.

As Blic notes, the key topic of Trump’s speech will be Greenland—the world’s largest island, part of Denmark, which Trump wants to annex to the United States—while European leaders warn that such a move could mean the end of NATO.

However, due to his late-night addresses, all of Europe is already on edge, awaiting the speech Trump will deliver today at the World Economic Forum.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney gave a dramatic speech in Davos that went viral, summarizing his message as: “If we’re not at the table, then we’re on the menu.”

Vučić warns: “I listened carefully to von der Leyen”

A key moment at Davos was the speech by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who twice emphasized that the world as we know it has ended and that changes in EU–U.S. relations are coming that will be permanent.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, speaking to citizens from Davos after von der Leyen’s address, stated that a political “divorce” between the EU and the U.S. has already begun.

Vučić stressed that the Commission president’s speech was extremely important because it outlined the direction in which the world is moving—a direction in which, as he noted, nothing will ever be the same again.

Macron vs. Trump; Trump vs. Macron

Attention was also focused on the “exchange of views” between Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron.

On a briefing before departing for Davos, Trump said he had declined Macron’s invitation to attend a G7 meeting in France.

“No, I wouldn’t do that. Because, you know, Emmanuel won’t be there much longer. He’s one of my friends. Very nice guy. I like Macron, but he won’t stay much longer, as you know,” Trump said, showing the public the messages Macron had sent him earlier that same day.

Macron, on the other hand, left Davos last night without attempting to meet with the U.S. president.

Answering questions from journalists, Macron explained why he would not meet with Trump in Davos. “I don’t need to change my agenda. I hadn’t planned to stay tomorrow either. The plan was to arrive this morning and leave tonight,” Macron told reporters, according to Figaro.

However, Macron did deliver certain messages during his address at the Davos Forum, emphasizing that he prioritizes “respect, not bullies,” and “the rule of law, not brutality.”

Trump departs but experiences a delay, now three hours late

Due to issues with Air Force One, the U.S. president is expected to be about three hours late, Washington announced earlier today.

His speech was originally scheduled for 2:30 p.m., but an official confirmation of the address is still awaited, with the entire world eagerly anticipating it.

As Vučić noted, traffic in Davos was already at a standstill on Tuesday, and it is expected to be even worse today due to Trump and the American delegation’s arrival.

Vučić added that this year the U.S. delegation is arriving in the largest numbers yet, and only they can fill the entire hall where Trump is scheduled to speak.
