Today, the European Commission adopts new sanctions against Israel
The European Commission will adopt new sanctions against Israel today because of the war in the Gaza Strip, the EC spokesman announced.
"The commissioners will adopt a package of measures against Israel. Specifically, it is a proposal to suspend certain trade provisions in the agreements between the European Union and Israel," said the EU spokesman at the press conference.
Previously, EC President Ursula von der Leyen proposed sanctions for "extremist Israeli ministers" and "violent Israeli settlers in the Palestinian territories," reports Reuters.
Speaking about Gaza, she said that what is happening there is shaking the world and the images from there are catastrophic.
"We have seen the financial strangulation of the Palestinian Authority. Plans for a settlement project in the so-called E1 zone that would essentially cut off the occupied West Bank from East Jerusalem. The actions and statements of the most extreme ministers of the Israeli government that incite violence. All of this indicates a clear attempt to undermine the two-state solution. We must not allow that," she said.
