What did Sinner say?
“This hurts a lot. This was a very important Grand Slam for me because you all know what I’ve been through. It was a great match for both of us, we had our chances, I didn’t take mine, and what happened happened. This hurts a lot. You know, he has won 24 Grand Slams. We know each other very well and I wouldn’t say I’m surprised, because I believe he is the greatest tennis player and that no one will come close to him for many, many years,” the Italian said at the press conference.
He also touched on Alcaraz and the upcoming final
“For me, and I think for Carlos too, given how young he is and what he’s already achieved, history is on the line. A Grand Slam final, a lot is at stake, but I’ll prepare as always. I beat him here last year, so we’ll see how fresh we both are. He also had a tough match, but he’s 15 years younger (laughs). The goal is to play in Grand Slam finals, and here I am. This victory is just as big as winning a Grand Slam.”
“Many didn’t believe in me, they wanted to retire me”
“I never stopped believing in myself. Many people didn’t believe in me, a lot of so-called experts even wanted to retire me. Many times I’ve played in Grand Slams, and on the days when things don’t go your way, you try to fight through it. I was lucky that Lorenzo got injured and retired that day. I have a clear plan of what I should do – having a plan is one thing, showing it on the court against Sinner and Alcaraz is another. I’m really happy I could experience this tonight.”
Will you train before the final?
“I don’t know, let’s see. It’ll soon be three in the morning. I can’t say, I don’t think I’ll train tomorrow. I have to prepare for Sunday and at least try to get some rest.”
