Jannik Sinner has recently found a formula against Novak Djoković. The Italian has won their last five encounters, currently leading 6-4 in their overall head-to-head record against the Serbian star.

Their most recent clash on a big stage was in the Wimbledon semifinal, where Novak, visibly exhausted and injured after his previous-round match against Cobolli, suffered a decisive defeat.

Just a month earlier, at Roland Garros, Sinner was also the victor in three sets, but that match was far more closely contested. The third set was particularly dramatic, with Djokovic holding three set points that he failed to convert.

Novak is aware that breaking this negative streak will require changes in his approach.

“There is something different I will do, every match is different, you play against a different opponent, and you have to adapt. There is a foundation you have to work on to make it solid, and the other part is to adjust tactically to the opponent on that day. Against Sinner, I have had a negative record in most matches over the past year and a half, and I will look to turn that around,” Djokovic said.

Sinner is entering this match in exceptional form. Aside from minor issues with cramps against Eliot Spizzirri, the two-time consecutive Australian Open champion looks almost unstoppable. In the quarterfinals, he routinely defeated Ben Shelton in three sets.

Djoković admits that they know each other very well, but much will also depend on current form on the court.

“Of course, we know each other very well. Even if you prepare really well, everything on the court has to fall into place. He plays so well, he and Alcaraz, that it’s not just up to me; his level has to drop, and in those moments I have to take advantage of it,” Novak emphasizes, adding:

“That’s just the reality, that’s the situation. It doesn’t mean I give up, far from it. It’s good that I don’t have the physical issues I had last year. I just need to put my game together and give my maximum on the court.”
