Citizens of Serbia, the new "Lucifer" is coming; Meteorologist in shock: We are not aware of what awaits us

According to meteorologist Ivan Ristic, from Monday, June 2, we enter a long-lasting heat wave. In the next ten days, African anticyclone will spread over most of Europe, and in our country, it will affect part of Vojvodina, temperature will be up to 36-37˚C.

Ristić explains for "Blic" that his models show that it will get hotter and hotter to the point of equalizing with body temperature.

"It is moving north and we may even be in a heat dome, and that means for sure 15 days of dry weather, until the middle of June. It seems to be getting worse, but that is ideal for the sea and those who are planning a holiday now. The African anticyclone has a tendency to spread in the coming days and will affect most of Europe. In our country, a red color has appeared in Banat, part of Srem and Mačva, which means temperatures up to 37 degrees. The models show that it will be hotter," says Ristic.

There is no end in sight to the heat wave

In the long term, this would mean heat and an increasingly long heat wave. Ristic expects that on Wednesday and Thursday, June 4 and 5, it will be up to 35 degrees, and then that it will be even warmer next weekend and that tropical days will mark the first middle of the month.

"Still, I don't see an end to this heat wave. From Monday, June 2, it will be over 30 degrees, and on Thursday, Friday close to 35 degrees, and then 36 degrees. Day by day, the models raise the temperature and if it all moves towards Europe and spreads, then it will certainly last a long time, the heat dome will be above us and then we will remain 'trapped' in the heat," Ristić told "Blic".

It will be as if one of the strongest heat waves has arrived - "Lucifer"

Due to their strength and frequency, Ristić believes that heat waves are an important weather phenomenon and notes that it has been a long time since he saw what is in store for us.

He also announces that if it happens according to the current forecasts - it will be hellish.

"What is coming will be similar to the arrival of 'Lucifer', the strongest heat wave we have had in previous years. It is possible that the whole of June will be like that. It seems like a serious heat wave. We haven't had temperatures over 35 degrees for a long time and I don't think we are still aware of what awaits us. This heat wave will be so strong, it is in the range of 'Lucifer', that it is a shame that it will not get its own name. It reminds a lot of 'Lucifer'", says Ivan Ristić.

The sea temperature is also rising, and with it the risk of supercell storms

The increase in temperature will accelerate the warming of the sea and when the temperature of the sea water is 27 degrees and above, which will most likely happen in July, the possibility of supercell storms will open up, the meteorologist explains.

"There may be a penetration, and with them also disasters, since the temperatures will also be higher, but now this heat wave seems so strong that we still have to wait. As far as yesterday, the orientation of the African anticyclone was reminiscent of 2023, when several large-scale supercell storms roared through Serbia, and the heat dome is also stronger in Africa at the moment. We will see. For now, it is certain that we should prepare for high temperatures," concludes Ristić.

Čubrilo announced the first heat wave

Marko Čubrilo, an amateur meteorologist, announced that stabilization and gradual thawing will begin from Friday and that at the beginning of June it will be stable, very warm with maximum daily temperatures of up to 34 degrees.

On Friday, it will be mostly sunny and slightly warmer with a weaker northwesterly wind. Minimums from 7 to 13 degrees, and maximums from 19 to 24 degrees Celsius.

"From the weekend, there will be a change in the synoptics, which will lead to the arrival of summer-type weather. An anticyclone field will extend over the southeast of Europe, while cyclonic activity will be located over parts of northwestern Europe. In this air pressure relationship, very warm air will move towards us in the southwest, and a stronger thaw will follow. For the weekend, it will be moderately warm at first, on Sunday from 23 to 29 degrees. At the beginning of June, it will be even warmer with maximums of 28 to 34 degrees Celsius and that would be the first warm wave of this summer," concludes Čubrilo.
