New disaster averted in Tibet VIDEO

The Chinese authorities had previously suspended rescue operations for just under three hours due to fears of new flooding.

According to CCTV, rescue operations on the Tibetan side have now resumed normally.

Nepalese police said this morning that the death toll from the flash floods that struck the country had risen to 469, while around 1,500 people remain missing.

Among those missing are hundreds of tourists from India, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada, as well as one Serbian citizen.

Nepalese lake overflows, water level rising

Officials in Nepal’s Rasuwa district were previously informed that a lake had overflowed its banks, two days after flash floods hit the region, the district’s senior bureaucrat Narendra Pariyar said on Friday. 

“We can see that the water level is rising,” Pariyar said, adding that it is currently not known how high the water level is.

The lake’s reservoir has exceeded 2.5 million cubic meters of water, up from the estimated 1.5–2 million cubic meters that an eight-member Chinese engineering team monitoring the site recorded on Thursday.

Chinese authorities mobilized an eight-member engineering team on Thursday to conduct aerial surveys and 3D modeling of the barrier lake, according to CCTV.
