Police officers put the Mayor of Zeta, Mihailo Asanović, into a police van. Demonstrators lay on the ground and resisted.

“Carry him so you break his arm,” a local woman shouted as they tried to lift one demonstrator.

On the ground was also the DNP leader Milan Knežević, who said that the mayor of Zeta, Mihailo Asanović, and his 70-year-old father had been arrested.

“He represents the municipality of Zeta, and we are not resisting. Have we attacked you at any point? You dragged us, pulled us around. I am not here as a Member of Parliament, I am a citizen of Zeta. I am first a Zećanin, then a parliamentarian. I don’t care about the position. I am with my people, and I don’t want to be harassed. Start with me, not them,” Knežević said.

Police officers then arrested Milan Knežević, Borba reported.

“I told them that I will go with my people until the end and have no intention of leaving the police van, which suddenly broke down as soon as I got in. I will stay with the people until the end. An institutional Pandora’s box has been opened, and Montenegro will not be the same from today,” he said.

Demonstrators chanted: “Ustashas”.

The police began pushing back citizens who refused to comply with orders.

The crowd sat down and sang “Oj, svijetla majska zoro.”

About 200 police officers surrounded around 100 villagers.

Ten female officers also arrived in Botun.

Police warned journalists that it was not safe for them to be near the gathered citizens.

One of the villagers told a television station that if the police intervene, the entire Zeta region will be blocked.

“No one will be able to pass, not even to the airport.”

Earlier, the police issued an order to the crowd to leave the site planned for the construction of the plant and remove their vehicles. If they do not comply, the police said they would use the mildest force necessary.
