Since the start of the surveillance season on September 28, five cases of influenza have been confirmed by laboratory testing. Four cases were confirmed during the latest reporting week alone, and all were identified as influenza A(H1N1)pdm09.

According to data for the period from October 5 to 11, 2026, a total of 6,639 cases of influenza-like illness were recorded in Serbia. The highest incidence rates were reported among the youngest age groups, particularly children under the age of four, followed by children aged five to 14.

At the same time, 13,405 cases of acute respiratory infections were recorded, slightly more than in the previous week.

Among other respiratory viruses, rhinovirus was the most frequently detected, accounting for 37.03% of positive test samples. It was followed by adenovirus at 9% and SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, at 6.6%.

The good news is that influenza activity in Serbia has not yet reached epidemic levels. However, given the rising number of cases, particularly among children, it is important to monitor health conditions and follow recommendations for preventing respiratory infections.

Influenza vaccination is being carried out at vaccination centres in local health centres.
