Serbian MPs to debate Unified Voter List amendments and Special Law for the General Staff Building
Members of the Serbian Parliament will begin a new session of the autumn sitting today, with eight agenda items proposed, including amendments to the Law on the Unified Voter List and a special law concerning the General Staff building.
Amendments to the Law on the Unified Voter List are the result of a parliamentary dialogue on improving electoral conditions, which began in April 2024 based on reports from the OSCE and ODIHR election observation missions in Serbia.
“The proposed law suggests the establishment of a permanent commission tasked with conducting periodic audits of the Unified Voter List. This includes assessing the factual state of its management, maintenance, and accuracy, as well as overseeing the updating process, all aimed at improving accuracy, transparency, and citizens’ trust in the Voter List,” the bill’s explanation states.
The voter list audit would be carried out by the Commission for Review, Verification, and Control of the Accuracy and Updating of the Voter List, which, in exercising its powers, can make decisions, submit requests, issue orders, provide opinions, and produce reports.
The bill was submitted by SNS MP Uglješa Mrdić.
MPs will also discuss the draft law on special procedures for the implementation of the revitalization and development project for the area in Belgrade bounded by Knez Miloš, Masarikova, Birčaninova, and Resavska streets.
The explanation notes that the project represents a matter of general interest important for the overall economic development of Serbia.
This is a special law (lex specialis) concerning the General Staff building of the Serbian Army, and the draft law was submitted by 110 MPs.
Other items on the agenda include draft laws on obligations and basic property-law relations in air transport, amendments to the Law on Working Hours in Road Transport and Tachographs, and regulations on the marketing of wood and wood products.
MPs will also review draft laws ratifying agreements between the Government of Serbia and:
-
the Government of Saint Lucia on visa abolition for ordinary passport holders;
-
the Government of the Republic of Benin on visa abolition for holders of diplomatic, official, and service passports; and
-
the Government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea on cooperation in the field of security and public order.
