A proposal signed by 62 opposition members of parliament has been submitted to the National Assembly of Serbia to initiate a vote of no confidence in the government.

The proposal was submitted by MPs from several opposition groups, including the Movement of Free Citizens, the Party of Freedom and Justice, the Serbia Centre, the “We – The Power of the People” group led by Professor Dr. Branimir Nestorović, the Ecological Uprising, the Green–Left Front, the Movement of Free Citizens, the Movement for the Restoration of the Kingdom of Serbia (POKS), as well as independent MP Miloljub Albijanić.

The initiative was formally submitted on February 13.

In their explanation, the opposition claims there is reasonable suspicion of involvement of certain government members in the “General Staff” case and argues that the Prime Minister has not taken any action regarding the matter.

According to the Constitution of Serbia, Article 130, a motion of no confidence may be initiated by at least 60 MPs.

The National Assembly debates such a motion at its first following session, no earlier than five days after submission. After the debate concludes, a vote is held, and the motion passes if supported by a majority of all MPs.

If the government loses the vote of no confidence, the President of Serbia must initiate the process of forming a new government. If a new government is not elected within 30 days, the President must dissolve parliament and call elections.

If the motion fails, the signatories cannot submit a new one for 180 days.

The session is scheduled to begin at 11:00, while a parliamentary collegium meeting is set for 10:00.
