Djurić on Pristina's shameful move: Kurti's apartheid erases Serbian identity in Mitrovica
Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Djurić stated that the violent removal of the city sign "Kosovska Mitrovica" in the Serbian language is a deliberate provocation by Albin Kurti’s regime, which, he emphasized, fuels ethnic and religious hatred.
As he added, this decision is deeply undemocratic, goes against the will of the local community, and contradicts the principles of multiculturalism, tolerance, and respect for diversity that the provisional institutions in Pristina claim to support.
By targeting the identity of one community, he noted, they reveal a disregard for the rule of law and contempt for European values of equality and human dignity.
Serbia calls on international partners to respond to such discriminatory practices that endanger the fragile peace and further marginalize the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija, Djurić stressed, pointing out that instead of fostering reconciliation and coexistence, such actions deepen divisions and sow mistrust.
“Serbia will continue firmly to advocate for the protection of the rights, culture, and dignity of its people in Kosovo and Metohija and will not remain silent in the face of such clear attempts to erase their identity and religion,” Djurić concluded.
