Namely, in the continuation of the anti-corruption action, members of the UKP, on the order of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Nis, began searching and arresting suspects in several locations early this morning, and Sotirovski was also targeted, according to the media.

She served as the mayor of Niš from August 2020 until August 2024.

Sotirovski then returned to the editorial position at Radio Television of Serbia, as the Niš correspondent of the Second Program of Radio Belgrade.

As stated at the time, the reason was "termination of her public office".

She has also been the head of the Nišava administrative district with headquarters in Niš since December 2017, when she replaced her 25-year journalistic career with a political one.

At that time, she was the head of RTS television correspondence in Nis.

The former mayor of Niš is suspected of abuses related to the public procurement of water supply.

"According to the collected evidence, in order to circumvent the implementation of public procurement, she classified the works as urgent and negotiated the price directly with the contractors. In this way, she increased the price multiple times in agreement with the contractors and assigned the work to contractors she chose herself," reveals a Kurir source from the investigation.

According to unofficial information, the former mayor, against whom the Higher Prosecutor's Office in Nis launched an investigation, is the owner of a house in Greece.

Sotirovski: I was not arrested

Sotirovski told "The Voice of the South" in a telephone conversation that she was on vacation and that she had heard from the media that she had been taken into custody.

"I was neither arrested, nor taken into custody, nor did anyone from the police come to my house. I don't know if they will come during the day. I'm reading what the media is writing and I'm in shock," answered Sotirovski shortly.
