Yair Golan attacked during Israeli election; "The result of Netanyahu's campaign against him"
A man who allegedly attempted to stab Yair Golan, leader of Israel’s left-wing Democrats party, was arrested today following the incident, the party said.
The party said that security personnel in Tel Aviv prevented a man carrying a large knife from approaching Golan, The Times of Israel reported.
Golan said the attack was the result of a campaign against him led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and “his Qatari agents.”
“Incitement and violence will not intimidate us,” Golan said.
Police have not yet commented on the incident.
Israeli citizens are voting in parliamentary elections today, the first since the October 7, 2023, attack by the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The election will determine the political future of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, while polls point to a closely contested race between his bloc and the opposition, international media reported today.
Polling stations have opened across the country, with approximately 7.3 million citizens eligible to vote.
