Another country seeks to join the SEPA system
Turkey is interested in joining the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA), and the relevant financial institutions are already working on the matter, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said today.
He said this in response to a journalist’s question about talks held on Tuesday in Ankara with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and two European commissioners, Reuters reports.
Turkey and the European Union are already holding discussions on the possible inclusion of the country in the SEPA system, which brings together 41 countries and enables faster, cheaper, and more secure cross-border euro payments.
The Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) was established to simplify cashless euro payments between participating countries.
In addition to European Union member states, the system also includes several non-EU countries, such as Serbia, which became the 41st SEPA member in May 2025.
Joining SEPA can reduce the cost of cross-border transfers and speed up international euro payments for businesses and citizens.
