At the airports in Berlin and London yesterday, the situation stabilized quite a bit, but some flights are still canceled or delayed, the BBC reports today.

Check-in and boarding system provider Collins Aerospace, owned by RTX, said this morning it was working with affected airports and airlines and was in the final stages of updating the software needed to restore full system functionality, Reuters reported.

A spokesman for Brussels Airport said Collins Aerospace had not yet delivered a secure, updated version of the software, forcing the airport to request the cancellation of a number of flights for today.

The Brussels airport says that the service provider is actively working to solve the problem, but it is still unclear when the problem will be solved.

The Brussels airport has asked airlines to cancel about 140 of the 276 scheduled flights for today, reports AP.

Berlin Brandenburg Airport said on Sunday that some problems were still present, but that there was a manual system in place to work around the difficulties.

"Sometimes there are longer waits for check-in, boarding, baggage handling and baggage claim. Flight delays today are in line with a normal operating day," the statement said.

London's Heathrow Airport said on Sunday morning that it was still working to recover from a breakdown in its passenger check-in system, adding that "the vast majority of flights are continuing to operate".

On Friday, hackers attacked check-in and boarding system provider Collins Aerospace, causing disruptions at Heathrow Airport in London, as well as airports in Berlin and Brussels.

The European Commission, which has a role in managing airspace in Europe, said it was "closely monitoring the situation regarding the cyber attack", but that there were no indications that it was widespread or serious.

Cyber attacks in the aviation sector have increased by 600 percent over the past year, according to a recent report by the French aerospace and defense company "Thales".
