NEW YORK The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons will start inspecting the Syrian arsenal at the latest on Tuesday next week, a draft agreement states. According to the draft that will be voted on tonight, members of the organization are also invited to make donations to finance a rapid operation to destroy the Syrian chemical weapons, as agreed between Russia and the United States. Weapons inspection to start in Syria The OPCW has scheduled a meeting that should approve the Russian-American plan on urgent verification, and ensure the destruction of the Syrian arsenal of poison gas and nerve agents. The OPCW will meet late on Friday to approve the plan. The UN Security Council should in the meantime vote on a draft resolution on Syria, after world powers last night agreed on a draft resolution that would be "binding and applicable." If adopted, it will be the first UNSC resolution on Syria since the beginning of the conflict in that country in March 2011, which has so far claimed the lives of more than 100,000 people. The UN has also called on ministers of the leading world powers to trying to set a date for a peace conference. The draft resolution does not envisage immediate introduction of measures against Syria over the use of chemical weapons last month, but calls for sanctions after a new vote if the plan on disarmament is not honored.
