First Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić has announced that his first visits abroad will be in the context of the EU integration.

"My first meeting outside the country will be at the Committee of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Council of Europe, held in Vienna on May 5. After that, I will go to the EU-Western Balkans meeting, which will take place in Thessaloniki on May 7 and 8 " Dačić told the daily Danas.

Commenting on the transition of the former prime minister to minister of foreign affairs, Aleksandra Joksimović, president of the Center for Foreign Policy, told the newspaper that Ivica Dačić "even while serving as prime minister did the job of foreign minister":

"It often happens that it is important for the functioning of this ministry and the position of foreign minister to be run by a powerful political figure, to ensure by that the ministry proposed, designes and implements foreign policy."

According to her, by appointing Dačić as foreign minister, PM Aleksandar Vučić wanted him to continue the negotiations over Kosovo, which Dačić so far "did successfully."

"I guess the reason why Dačić found himself at the helm of the MFA is to provide continuity in the negotiations with Kosovo," said Joksimović.
