USD 1 billion will be invested in the expansion and modernization of Belgrade's Nikola Tesla Airport, the daily Večernje Novosti reports in its Friday edition.

"USD 1 billion to modernize Belgrade airport"

The private-public partnership model will be used to build a third terminal for the needs of the national airline, reconstruct Terminal I, build a second runway, the largest cargo center in the region, as well as a new hotel, and the project has already sparked a great deal of interest, Novosti reports.

The interested companies include two based in the UAE. One of them is Arabtec, which, according to Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić, will be involved in the construction of affordable housing in Serbia.

Talks with potential UAE-based concessionaires will take place in Belgrade next week, the daily reports..

Prospective concessionaires also include companies based in France, Austria and Russia.

The expansion of the Belgrade airport is necessary due to the announced launch of direct flights to the United States and a number of new flight destinations, according to the newspaper.
