EU and Russia set to extend sanctions against each other

EU governments agreed on Wednesday to extend economic sanctions against Russia until January 31 of next year, and Moscow announced that it will respond to this decision, Reuters said.

Ambassadors of 28 EU member states reached an agreement to extend anti-Russia sanctions in Brussels on Wednesday, after the European Parliament last week passed a resolution which calls for this measure because of Russia's interference in the conflict in Ukraine, and also called for unity in opposing the policy of Moscow.

After that Russian president's spokesman Dmitri Peskov, said that Russia will respond according to the principle of reciprocity, "if the pressure of Western sanctions increased."

"As for sanctions, Russia has repeatedly underlined that it is committed to the principle of reciprocity and no step will remain unanswered," said Peskov.
