Rwanda marking 20th anniversary of genocide

The Rwandan Genocide Memorial Center lists 1,000,050 people among the victims of the rampage of violence.

A symbolic flame is traveling the country as it prepares to mark the anniversary, and is scheduled to reach the capital city of Kigali on April 7.

Officials have said that memorial ceremonies are helping people "remember what happened, examine the causes, and find a way forward."

Rwandan Foreign Minister Louise Mushikiwabo, speaking at a memorial event in London this week, called the genocide “the most brutally efficient killing spree in human history.”
