Alarm is on: This is proof that the fifth wave is starting in Serbia as well
According to the newspaper, one third of the total number of infected people in our country is recorded daily in the capital. A similar trend was observed at the beginning of the previous waves, but also in London and Madrid before the mass infection broke out in these countries under the influence of omicron. The current epidemiological situation announces that a new wave can be expected soon. Namely, on Saturday, there were about seven percent more infected than last Saturday, and currently 36 percent of all infected people in Serbia have been recorded in Belgrade, the paper writes.
As a comparison, the data is taken that in the period of stable epidemiological situation, the number of infected people in Belgrade is between 20 and 25 percent of the total number of infected people in our country. When that percentage increases above 30 percent, as a rule, a new wave begins. "Unfortunately, we now have such a situation in the capital," the paper points out, adding that Dr Predrag Kon also pointed this out.
"We see that the slowdown in the number of newly infected is already visible. The increase in Belgrade is slowly starting, this city makes up 36 percent of all newly infected, which is typical for a big city. In the coming days it will happen. Belgrade's already crowded, people will come in, with some the virus will come in, with some the omicron, and probably the flu virus," said Kon.
The director of the Savski Venac outpatient clinic, Zoran Bekić, points out for Blic that there is a slight increase in the number of infected people, but as he says, the situation is not alarming yet. As he says, the large number of unvaccinated adult citizens in Serbia before the omicron strain becomes dominant is of particular concern.
"2.3 million adult citizens have not received a single dose of the vaccine, while of the 3.1 million residents who received the first dose, more than 950.000 have not received the third dose. This means that 3.3 million adult citizens are without immunity and they practically play Russian roulette with health before the beginning of a new wave under the influence of omicron", emphasizes Bekić and adds that in COVID clinics they cannot determine who is infected with which strain.
When it comes to Serbia, every previous wave started, first, in Belgrade, where there were always 30 to 70 percent of the total infected, so that stagnation and lowering the epidemiological curve would begin when the number of infected in the capital drops to 20-25 percent of the total.
