President-elect meets with EU representative

Serbia's president-elect Tomislav Nikolic met on Tuesday in Belgrade with head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert. Nikolic told reporters after the meeting that they "discussed the current situation in Serbia and his visit to Brussels scheduled for June 14". President-elect meets with EU representative Nikolic spoke to reporters at the SerbProgressive Party (SNS) headquarters. According to the country's new president - due to take his oath of office later this week - he will meet with European Council President Herman Van Rompuy and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton during his Brussels trip. "Human and minority rights, the situation in southern Serbia and in Kosovo, talks on Kosovo, as well as the requirements Serbia needed to meet in order to start EU accession talks were also discussed," Nikolic added. He again appealed to parties which are in talks to form a government to accelerate their negotiations "and inform him on Monday if they had reached an agreement". Otherwise, Nikolic explained, talks will be started on Monday with the parties according to the number of seats they hold in the new parliament - their order being the SNS, the Democratic Party, and the coalition of the Socialist Party of Serbia, Party of United Pensioners of Serbia and United Serbia.
