Man sentenced to 20 years for killing police officer

The Higher Court in Belgrade has sentenced Milorad Stevanović to 20 years in jail for driving over a traffic police officer who tried to stop him.

The Higher Court in Belgrade has sentenced Milorad Stevanovic to 20 years in jail for driving over a traffic police officer who tried to stop him. On May 2, 2008, driving a Mercedes car without a driver's license or a completed driving test, and traveling at a speed of 130 kilometers per hour, 22-year-old Stevanovic hit policeman Aleksandar Otasevic. Man sentenced to 20 years for killing police officer Otasevic, who was 26 at the time of the accident, sustained serious injuries and died several days later. The Higher Public Prosecutor and Stefanovic have a right to appeal the ruling at the Belgrade Appellate Court within 15 days from the receiving the verdict in writing, it has been announced in Belgrade on Monday.

Otašević, who was 26 at the time of the accident, sustained serious injuries and died several days later.
