Belgium's authorities intend to deport more than two thousand people from Kosovo who have sought asylum in that country, said reports. This is a major obstacle to commencement of the talks on visa abolition for the residents of Kosovo, according to Albanian language daily Koha Ditore. Asylum-seekers "obstacle to visa abolition for Kosovo" Last year, Belgium received the greatest number of asylum applications from the people from Kosovo, then Iraq and Afghanistan, said the article. The daily underlined that a growing number of people leaving Kosovo and seeking an asylum in the EU member states, was the main reason why certain EU countries strongly opposed any initiative regarding a visa-free regime for Kosovo. They did not want to comment on Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci's statement that after 15 months of the government's mandate, in mid-June 2012, Kosovo residents will be able to travel visa-free. "There should be awareness of the fact that there are many people who want to leave Kosovo, taking into account the current economic situation, the fact that Kosovo is so closely associated with corruption and organized crime. Consequently, the last thing the EU interior ministers want is to abolish visas for Kosovo", Koha Ditore's correspondent quested a source in Brussels.
