Man dies, others hallucinate from drinking brandy concoction

The trouble started during the weekend when M.M. and three others drank what they thought was walnut brandy, which quickly made them sick. The three men who survived experienced "strong hallucinations" but have in the meanwhile been released from the hospital.

Later the same day in the same household, the owner's daughter threw a party during which five young men also consumed the liquor and ended up in the hospital with symptoms of poisoning.

It is believed that all consumed a mixture prepared by the host's mother to be used externally to treat rheumatism. It contained brandy and various plants, including poppy, thistle, and plantago, which fermented into a dangerous concoction.

The prosecution announced their investigation would continue to examine all the circumstances that led to the poisoning.
