Oliver Ivanovic has said that forming interim municipal councils could be "an alternative" in case local elections are not held in Kosovo as well on May 6. A decision about the elections might be reached "next week", the Ministry for Kosovo state secretary was quoted as saying on Sunday. "Municipal councils, if no local elections" Ivanovic "cautioned that a negative response by the UN, EU or other respected international organizations" regarding the holding of the local elections in Kosovo "might be interpreted by the Kosovo interior ministry as a call to send police, arrest persons who have election materials with them, close polling stations and detain people". “The greatest danger lies in the fact that that we are holding the parliamentary elections at the same time, and if we happen not to be in a position to deliver the materials for the local elections, we will be prevented from bringing the materials for the parliamentary elections as well, and they will also be closing polling stations with all the consequences that may arise,” Ivanovic was quoted as saying.
