Kosovo: No incidents in flashpoint town

Kosovo Police Service (KPS) spokesperson Besim Hoti said that the situation in Kosovska Mitrovica is currently peaceful. He said that police have taken the statements of six witnesses of Monday’s shooting of Independent Liberal Party official Petar Miletic, adding that a statement will be given by the victim as well, once his health improves. Miletic is currently in stable condition, according to Kosovska Mitrovica hospital official Milena Cvetkovic. “The patient is still in the intensive care unit, his health is stable and he is still under intensive observation,” Cvetkovic said. Miletic was shot in the leg on Monday morning in the hallway of his apartment building in northern Kosovska Mitrovica. This was the second serious incident in the flashpoint ethnically divided town in the last several days, along with a hand grenade being thrown during a peaceful Serb protest on Friday, in which one person died and 11 others were injured. It is still unknown who carried out that attack. Meanwhile, Miletic is being guarded by KPS members while in the hospital.
