Health Minister Tomica Milosavljevic has announced an extraordinary inspection at the Oncology and Radiology Institute of Serbia. He said that there was a special procedure for this, and that a list of supervisors suggested by the Serbian Medical Chamber and approved by the ministry had been made. Yesterday, several opposition parties demanded Milosavljevic's resignation. “It seems unbelievable to me that any health worker gave their patient a higher dosage in order to get financial benefit,” the health minister was quoted as saying. “The one who broke the law should stand trial in accordance with the law and procedures which are envisaged by the regulations. It’s not good to launch claims in the media, just like today, that double or triple dosages of cytostatics had been given and that children were killed with it,” he said and pointed out that such claims were "sensationalist and unfounded". Police arrested Director of the Oncology and Radiology Institute of Serbia Nenad Borojevic and six more persons on Wednesday under suspicion of accepting and giving bribes in the amount of about EUR 1mn. One more person was arrested yesterday. Police announced that the suspects, employees of the Oncology and Radiology Institute of Serbia, requested and received money from the representatives of pharmaceutical companies. The suspects are expected to face the investigative judge of the Special Department of the Higher Court in Belgrade as their 48-hour police custody will soon expire. This came in the wake of a police operation that saw the arrests of the director of the institute and several others, in a bribery case that saw doctor boost sales of cancer medication. Yesterday, several opposition parties demanded Milosavljević's resignation.

“It seems unbelievable to me that any health worker gave their patient a higher dosage in order to get financial benefit,” the health minister was quoted as saying.
