Čanak calls for new constitution

President of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina (LSV) Nenad says this party will not give up full autonomy of the province. Canak told a party gathering in Novi Sad on Sunday that this should be guaranteed under a new constitution of Serbia. Canak calls for new constitution “Vojvodina is not the problem but a solution. We spoke about it in 1999 as a republic in a federal Serbia, and today we are speaking about the autonomous province in a European Serbia,” Canak said in a closing part of the sixth, extraordinary congress of the LSV. Canak reiterated that there are five elements of the autonomy – legislative, executive and judicial authority, right to property and original revenues. “We request a new constitution of Serbia which will respect Vojvodina and all other areas in Serbia that should become autonomous tomorrow. What we ask for Vojvodina we also offer to Sumadija, the Nis region, Sandzak and Belgrade." "We want autonomy and not a caricature of a region,” underscored Canak, who was, being the only candidate, reelected president of the LSV, which he has been heading since its foundation in 1990.
