BELGRADE -- French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner is to visit Belgrade next week, writes daily Blic.

The daily writes that Kouchner is expected to repeat his plea to Serbia to drop its plans to seek the opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on Kosovo’s unilateral independence declaration.

British Balkan expert James Lindsay believes that Serbia’s initiative to consult the court has every chance of success.

Lindsay says that a ruling in Serbia’s favor would “significantly complicate further efforts to legitimize Kosovo as a state.”

“Given Kouchner’s well-known views and his tendency to speak frankly, I don’t rule out the possibility that, during his visit, he might exert pressure on Belgrade over the ICJ, though he shouldn’t, as EU president,” the Balkan expert states.
