BELGRADE Democratic Party (DS) leader Dragan Djilas has said that Serbia is getting closer to early parliamentary elections. He added that the DS’ policy would be uncompromising. DS leader says “elections are getting closer” “The country is in a recession, the government is being led in an interesting and specific way, politics is becoming more like show business, there is also irresponsibility for statements, violation of parliament’s resolution and all that is leading toward something the DS did not ask for – the elections,” the DS leader noted. Djilas explained that the DS had not asked for the elections because it was in a process of reforms and because elections always paralyzed the country for some time. He said that the DS had, as a responsible party, given a chance to the government and that it did not want to topple it but that its only goal was to provide better life to citizens. “However, I think we are getting closer to the elections and the DS will be ready with its program and policy,” Djilas stressed. At a celebration of the 23rd anniversary since the DS renewed its work, he said that the DS and people who led it had to make compromises in the last 12 years. “The DS made a step forward but the price of the compromise was obviously too high. That is why the DS’ policy will in the future be without compromises on issues where compromises cannot be made, in reform of the education system, public administration, judiciary and everything that needs to be changed so the state would be better,” he pointed out. Djilas added that the DS was working on its program so it could implement its policy in the best possible way and that he hoped the Democrats would win the trust of the citizens they had partially lost.
