Vlade Divac has launched a humanitarian campaign to raising funds meant to provide housing for 7,850 refugees in Serbia. A donor dinner held in the White Palace in Belgrade on Friday evening marked the end of one of Serbia’s best basketball players' career, and the beginning of his humanitarian work. Divac starts humanitarian campaign Appearing as a guest in TV B92’s Poligraf program yesterday, Divac explained that his first campaign will call on all those interested in helping the cause to donate money according to their means. “I am trying to raise awareness here and worldwide that people who fled their homes fifteen years ago are living in inhumane conditions and that we have forgotten about them in a way.” “We can all join forces and help these people by buying and adapting deserted village households that are abound in Serbia,” he said. The program will continue this evening outside the National Parliament building in downtown Belgrade by a big party set to feature numerous music and sports celebrities from Serbia and abroad. Divac will head out to Prijepolje on Sunday where he is expected to open his own museum and score his last point on a basketball court to seal his professional sporting career. On Friday evening, Crown Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic threw a charity dinner in Divac’s honor in the royal complex of the White Palace, in the Belgrade suburb of Dedinje.
