Former Croatian President Stjepan Mesić has once again denied that he was in any way connected to the Patria corruption affair.

ZAGREB Former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic has once again denied that he was in any way connected to the Patria corruption affair. The scandal concerns allegations that Finland's Patria company bribed officials in Croatia and Slovenia as it was closing deals to sell its armored vehicles there. Croatia's ex-president denies he took bribes Appearing on Croatia's state television HRT over the weekend, Mesic was presented with the official document of the Finnish State Prosecution, that showed three Patria managers had been indicted for giving bribes to the Croatian president, and a former director of the Djuro Djakovic company. However, Mesic reacted by saying that "such a thing does not exist," and that "nobody had accused him of that." When the host insisted that the document did contain his name, Mesic responded: "What does it mean, that it contains my name?" The Croatian media are also reporting that the former president "admitted" that he had been offered bribes, but only once in his career - while he was serving as municipal president, but that he "naturally refused."
