Russia and RS have signed a document which considers the possibility that South Stream pipeline should reach the Serbian entity within Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Moscow document was signed by Prime Minister of the Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik and Russian Minister of Energy Sergei Shamtko. South Stream could reach RS As stated in the document, both parties are interested in exploring the possibility that Republic of Srpska be supplied with gas from the South Stream gas pipeline. Dodik said that the capacity of the planned pipeline arm should be a billion cubic meters of gas per year. After the feasibility study has been made, Russian Gazprom should inform the Government of the Republic of Srpska about their decision on further implementation of the project. Dodik stated that it will take "a month or two" to investigate all details. Sergei Shmatko said that Russia is interested in including other countries in the South Stream and reminded that all necessary intergovernmental agreements have already been signed, and that negotiations among companies are nearing completion. The Russian minister said that Moscow will not give up on construction of the South Stream, even if Ukraine should offer attractive conditions for getting into its gas transportation system. "We do not trade with Ukraine," said Shmatko, adding that Kiev should "get used to life in the competitive market environment." Commenting on the criticism of high construction costs for the South Stream, he stated that these cannot affect the construction plans. "Shareholders have already made a decision and I do not see a problem there," said Shmatko. "We are confident it is in the best interest of Europe that all conditions for the rapid implementation of the project are created as soon as possible," said Shmatko. FoNet 900 km gas pipeline from Russia to Western Europe The future gas pipeline called South Stream, a joint venture of Gazprom and Italian Eni, should transport Russian gas under the Black Sea level, via a 900 kilometer-long pipeline that would run to Bulgaria and through Serbia to other European countries. The investment is estimated to be worth EUR 20bn, the pipeline capacity should be 63 billion cubic meters per year, the construction should begin in 2013, and the deadline for completion is late 2015. Serbian section of the gas pipeline should be 450 kilometers long, having a capacity of 36 to 41 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Investment value for this pipeline section shall be 700 million euros at least. Russia has already signed agreements for the South Stream construction with Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia and Austria.
