NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer will visit Montenegro in the spring, it was announced today. Scheffer will be in Podgorica after a NATO summit planned to take place in Strasbourg and Cologne, local media are reporting, quoting information from the Munich Conference on Security Policy, where Montenegrin Defense Minister Boro Vucinic is taking part. NATO chief to visit Montenegro Vucinic met with Scheffer, after which the NATO secretary general said that Montenegro "would find its place in the framework of Euro-Atlantic integrations". Podgorica expects the next NATO summit to approve its membership action plan, which is considered "the penultimate step" toward official membership.
