"Fictitious character" takes his place in local assembly

Behind the name - a play on words in Serbian, where the expression "preletac" is used to describe a politician who changes parties for personal gains - is Luka Maksimovic.

Maksimovic originally came up with the character of Ljubisa Preletacevic as a parody mocking the country's political system, but then decided to start collecting signatures to support the group's participation in the April 24 elections.

The electoral list - officially named "Beli - Hit it Hard - Luka Maksinovic" went on to receive 21.1 percent of the vote and finish second in Mladenovac, behind the ruling SNS party's list "Aleksandar Vucic - Serbia is Winning."

According to the results published earlier by Ipsos Strategic Marketing, Maksimovic's list will have 13 councilors. The SNS will have 29, the Democratic Party (DS) six, the SPS-JS and SDS_LDP coalitions four and three, respectively.

The movement on Monday marked the first meeting of the local assembly by posting photos online, announcing that their leader "came in running." Meanwhile, "Preletacevic" himself announced on Instagram, "I've arrived":
