Dacic pointed out that Serbia had up to now had "a fair and constructive approach to the issue, and had been praised by the entire world for that."

"In 2015, we had 600,000 migrants pass through Serbia and what is cause for us to worry further is the absence of a unified approach from the European Union. And these individual measures and steps that are taken by certain countries are something that brings us into a very difficult situation," Dacic said in an interview with Radio Deutsche Welle on Saturday.

He said that Serbia's next steps will depend primarily on the steps taken by other countries on the migrant route, and that if Austria, Croatia, and Slovenia closed their borders, "then Serbia would simply be forced to close its borders, too" - as the country has no capacity to have "so many people" stay.

Asked whether the issue of refugees could be "instrumentalized" in the upcoming elections campaign, he replied that "unfortunately, the closing of borders could happen precisely during the campaign."

"However, the ruling parties in Serbia so far have not abused this issue and have not been guided by what's popular and what isn't, but wished above all to follow Germany's position related to these issues," said Dacic.
