BELGRADE Democratic Party (DS) deputy leader Jelena Trivan is certain that there will be no election duel between DS leader Boris Tadic and his deputy Dragan Djilas. She stressed that no one had ever requested her dismissal. “DS will emerge stronger from crisis” “The amount of untrue and speculative texts about the DS and its officials is unbelievable. As for me, the truth is that no one has ever asked for my dismissal. The current situation in the party is a consequence of our actions, party management, and steps made after the elections. If someone was not part of the government, parliament, or party leadership, I am not sure what he could be held accountable for,” Trivan told Belgrade-based daily Vecernje novosti. She said that she expected that the analyses of results of the party operation would be presented at a session of the DS Main Board scheduled for September 8. When asked when the party's electoral meeting will be held and whether she expects that Djilas will be Tadic's counter-candidate, Trivan said that “it has not been decided yet whether and when the meeting will be held, but I am certain that there will be no such duel”. “I have faith in the courage and wisdom of DS officials, and I believe that the current situation will make us even stronger, rather than divided. I am aware that there are many people whose interest is to have a Serbia without opposition and see the DS weakened. However, within the DS itself, no one could benefit from that,” the DS deputy leader pointed out. “Only strong enough can we be an alternative to this government. As long as we focus only on ourselves, the government will make moves far from the public eye, such as the Law on the National Bank of Serbia (NBS),” Trivan concluded.
