“We won’t try to persuade Socialists to join our govt.”

Serb Progressive Party (SNS) official Jorgovanka Tabakovic said that the party, if it got the chance to form a government, would not give up on its program. She added that the SNS would not try to persuade Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic to join the SNS in the future government. “We won’t try to persuade Socialists to join our govt.” Commenting on speculations that the SNS was ready to offer Dacic the prime minister's office, Tabakovic was adamant: “We will not try to convince Dacic. The citizens had their say.” “It would be a disaster if the SNS sacrificed its program for the sake of power, but sticking to the policy and people who brought the country to the edge of an abyss would be a disaster for the entire nation,” she told daily Vecernje novosti. As regards the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), Tabakovic, who is also the SNS candidate for the prime minister's post, said that the SNS and DSS agreed on the issues related to the “the European criteria and institutional set-up of the state, the rule of law.” Asked whether the United Regions of Serbia (URS) and minorities could be a replacement for the DSS, she said that the doors were open to minorities, whereas the G17 (which leads the URS coalition) could change its name but could not aspire to correct its own mistakes, because of which many had been suffering, solely by admitting their guilt and offering poor excuses. When asked whether Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic would obstruct the government's work if Democratic Party (DS) leader Boris Tadic became a prime minister, Tabakovic said that she would expect Nikolic to judge people by their deeds, as he always had. “Tomislav Nikolic has demonstrated many times that an extent to which politicians and public figures are ready to work to the benefit of all the people in Serbia is the sole indicator of their value,” she was quoted as saying.
