Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) leader Ivica Dacic said Sunday that the talks with the Democratic Party (DS) had not failed. He added, however, that he could not say that everything was ready for the forming of the new government. New government not ready yet, SPS leader says The SPS leader told reporters that he expected the continuation of talks with the DS in the next several days, especially on the government’s economic and social policy and about who should make the majority. “We will continue the talks with the DS and (DS leader) Boris Tadic and it will be possible to start the process of the government forming only after those talks. It is necessary to complete the process in order to say that there is a parliamentary majority and it has not been completed so far. This means that it should be clear who will make the parliamentary majority,” he stressed. When asked whether the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) was an acceptable partner to the SPS, Dacic said that the Socialists used to be in the government with the parties they did not fully agree with. “This is not about the LDP as a party. We had parties we did not agree with in the Serbian government before. This is about the policy that the Serbian government will lead. We do not agree with some positions and this is a well-known fact but it is important to determine a state policy that will be a policy of the entire government,” Dacic explained. He added that the social policy was important for the SPS and that restrictive austerity measures would not contribute to citizens’ economic situation. Ivica Dacic Beta Tanjug
