Sanžak autonomy "dangerous fairytale”

The idea to renew Sanzak’s autonomy and the possible annexation of the region to Bosnia-Herzegovina is a dangerous fairytale, Meho Omerovic said. A member of the parliament’s Defense and Security Committee, Omerovic said that such announcements are “bringing unrest among citizens and are not contributing to stability in the region”. He asked whether those, as he called them, wanna-be cartographers, knew that Serbs and Montenegrins lived in Sandzak municipalities too and that they make up a majority in some of them, and whether they knew how such ideas in these parts ended up in the past. “Instead of solving life problems all together – unemployment, poverty, corruption, crime, some people are dealing with daydreaming. It seems that it bothers them that the possibilities for the faster development of Sandzak are opening up today after a longer period of political instability,” Omerovic wrote in his statement. He asked if those “do-gooders” thought that they would with such “a fairy-tale and flammable” storiesm create an environment in which someone would want to invest their money, adding that not even their family members would invest a single euro in such a Sandzak. “From changes of the Constitution, the constituency of the Bosniaks, renewal of the ZAVNOS (National Anti-Fascist Council of the People's Liberation of Sandzak), here, they now remembered that they could also change the borders. Maybe they will bring attention to themselves by declaring war to some country in the next attempt,“ said the official of Rasim Ljajic's Social Democratic Party of Serbia (SDPS). He stated that it was a pity that such ideas were being promoted during the holy month of Ramadan and added that it spoke enough about how much the proponents of the idea respect their people and their religion. “Here it's about those who don't know what to do with themselves so they would like to stir things up a little. Well, this (Dzemail) Suljevic has little support in all of Sandzak and has come out with this same idea in all elections so far,“ Omerovic pointed out, adding that he was convinced that “it is clear that their ideas do not have a foothold among the people“ who would like to work, not fight wars. Suljevic is the president of a newly-formed Council for the Renewal of the National Council of Sandzak (NVS) which aims to establish the autonomy of the region. The Renewal of the NVS, modeled after ZAVNOS from 1943 until 1945, has been envisaged by a declaration which was adopted by the Bosniak National Assembly under Chief Mufti Muamer Zukorlic shortly after the forming of the Bosniak National Council, which is not recognized by the Human and Minority Rights Ministry.
