Serbian President Boris Tadic visited the village of Jabuka stating that the inter-ethnic violence must not happen again there. “We cannot forget the violence and the boy that tragically lost his life in Jabuka, and we cannot allow this violence to repeat itself,” Tadic said. They joined in the St. Elijah (Sv.Ilija, Ilindan) celebrations there. “I want to encourage Macedonians, Serbs and Roma to discourage those who are prone to revenge and violence, because this is the only way we can build a better Serbia and a better Jabuka,” Tadic said. Tensions began in Jabuka two months ago, when a group of locals threw stones at Roma homes in the wake of the murder.

Some two months ago, after a Roma boy was arrested on suspicion that he killed a teenager in the village, Romas there were harassed.
