Serbia's participation in the Slovenia conference was agreed during Boris Tadic’s meeting with Croat and Slovenian PMs in the town of Ptuj, says Jelko Kacin. The EP rapporteur for Serbia claims that it was agreed that the Kosovo Albanian delegation would also take part, and that no "state insignia" of any participant would be displayed. "Tadic initially agreed to attend conference" Kacin told B92 that Tadic "changed his mind after his return to Serbia" Just two days ahead of the planned conference, it is unknown whether the Serbian president attend, regardless of the organizers’ intent that the countries should be represented without state insignia, including Kosovo. Serbia wants Pristina to be represented as Kosovo/UNMIK. Tadic’s cabinet denied two weeks ago that the president had agreed to such a scenario but Kacin says that the agreement was reached. “It would be good to know what it looked like at the very beginning. It was clearly said in Ptuj what it would look like – without titles, without flags, and this is a known fact. The difference is that you do not know that they agreed on this, and when President Tadic returned to Serbia he held some sort of different position. And now it is being negotiated – if, when and how,” Kacin was quoted. He repeated that in case Tadic decided to attend, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy would also participate in the conference. Rompuy would in this way send a message that this meeting is very important to the EU as well, the EP rapporteur said. Tadic's cabinet, however, on Thursday denied Kacin's claims. Serbian Prime Minister Mirko Cvetkovic revealed yesterday that he had spoken about the participation of Kosovo in gatherings with visiting EU Enlargement Commissioner Stefan Fuele, but did not specify whether it regarded the conference in Slovenia. “We have spoken about the way Kosovo will appear at various meetings and about the way which would make this appearance status-neutral. We jointly decided that appropriate technical solutions should be looked for,” the PM said. Jeko Kacin (Tanjug, file)
