Interior Minister Ivica Dacic met in Washington with FBI Director Robert Mueller to discuss the fight against crime and terrorism. He also discussed the possibility of training by the FBI for members of Serbia’s Interior Ministry (MUP). Dacic meets with FBI Director Dacic and Mueller said that cooperation has been good between the FBI and MUP, adding that it should be intensified further. They said that the MUP and FBI, as well as Serbia and America, have the same goals—the fight against terrorism, organized and high-technology crime—adding that these kinds of crimes have a trans-national character. They also discussed the possibility of increasing the number of MUP officials being trained at the FBI academy. Mueller said that the presence of MUP officials in peacekeeping missions is of great significance, because it improves Serbia’s image in the world, and he gave his support for the MUP increasing its numbers of participating officials in UN missions. The FBI chief added that the U.S. government is thankful for the participation of MUP instructors in the peacekeeping missions led by the EU in Congo and Afghanistan. Dacic invited Mueller to visit Serbia, and he graciously accepted the invitation, according to the MUP’s statement. This was the final meeting in Dacic’s week-long visit to America.
