Ruling G17 Plus leader Mladjan Dinkic says he is convinced that changes to the Law on Information will be adopted and that Serbia is "very far from elections". "It seems that we are very far from elections. I'm convinced that soon gradual recovery of the economy will start, we except big investments in the coming years, visa cancelling for travel to the EU. The worst is behind us. If the government manages the next couple of months, we will have elections in the regular slot in 2012," he told daily Vecenje Novosti. Dinkic sees elections in 2012 Dinkic, whose party drafted the changes to the law that saw the ruling coalition struggling to put together a majority in parliament, said the Democrats (DS) assured him that the bill would pass, and rejected criticism that it would lead to censorship and "media darkness". Speaking about the ongoing talks with an IMF mission in Belgrade, Dinkic, who is also economy minister, said that the government has a united approach to the negotiations, and that it does not wish to raise taxes on the economy and citizens, but to permanently decrease state administration and unproductive public spending. He also said a meeting was held with President Boris Tadic and PM Mirko Cvetkovic ahead of the IMF delegation's arrival to harmonize the strategy. According to Dinkic, the IMF sees as "quite acceptable" the idea to have the total budget deficit in 2009 at 4.5 percent of the GDP. He stated that the state budget is "improving all the time" and that its revenues are approximately at the same normal level achieved in this period last year.
