Interior Minister Ivica Dacic has called on ethnic Albanian leaders in the south to cooperate in efforts to provide peace and safety. He also said that MUP Gendarmerie cannot withdraw from the area for as long as there is terrorist threat in there. Dacic rejects "excessive force" claims Dacic's comments came in the wake of accusations from ethnic Albanians that police officers were acting "brutally" while performing their duties, and demands that MUP's elite Gendarmes withdraw from the region. He said police never used excessive force since he took over the ministry, and reminded that ethnic Albanians head the police in Presevo. The minister also advised the local Albanian politicians against "complaining to the international community", since, in his words, it is precisely from the western security services that the Serbian police is receiving information about activities and arming of some groups in Kosovo and Metohija "that are originally from the municipalities in southern Serbia". B92 has unofficially learned from our MUP sources that a report was sent to the OSCE about the activities in Presevo and its surroundings, where patrols have been stepped up in the wake of an attack on Gendarmes and subsequently on a residential building. In two operations that followed, MUP officers arrested arms and human traffickers, while leaders of both these groups were from Presevo. Our sources also said that Interpol and police representatives from some regional countries took part in one of the raids, and that they had no objections regarding the actions of Serbia's security forces.
