Belgrade will today host a summit of the UN Environment Program (UNEP), with 50 environment ministers from around the world in attendance. The conference’s opening ceremony will be addressed by Belgrade Mayor Dragan Djilas, Environment Minister Oliver Dulic and UNEP Executive Director Achim Steiner. UN environment conference to open in Belgrade Speaking yesterday in Sremski Karlovci, Dulic said that it would be a historic conference as Serbia would be chairing UNEP for the next two years, which was the first time that Belgrade would be presiding over an international body of such high standing. He said that conference participants would be speaking with the most powerful countries like the U.S., China and Russia, as well as many others, about how to create a system through which the UN could react faster and more effectively to ecological crises facing the world. Speaking yesterday in Sremski Karlovci, Dulić said that it would be a historic conference as Serbia would be chairing UNEP for the next two years, which was the first time that Belgrade would be presiding over an international body of such high standing.

He said that conference participants would be speaking with the most powerful countries like the U.S., China and Russia, as well as many others, about how to create a system through which the UN could react faster and more effectively to ecological crises facing the world.
