French FM Bernard Kouchner says that the Western Balkans must enter the EU and that failure to adopt the Lisbon Treaty could be the main obstacle on that path. He told Belgrade daily Vecernje Novosti that a new EU-Western Balkans conference was not necessary, because the European future of the entire region had already been crystallized. Kouchner: Western Balkans must join EU “A problem would arise if the Lisbon Treaty was not adopted. In view of the precise red line set by Holland and certain other Europeans, it is clear that were it not for this agreement, the Western Balkans would be completely forgotten. And that is not what we want,” Kouchner said. He said that after recent meetings with Serbian President Boris Tadic and Kosovo Prime Minister Hashim Thaci he had decided to visit Belgrade and Pristina soon.
